This page explains how to delete your Airdress account, what is removed when you do, and what we keep. It applies to the Airdress Chat mobile app and to your account at account.airdress.co.
You do not need the app installed to make this request.
How to delete your account#
From the app. Open Settings → Delete account, and confirm. You will be signed out on that device and the request is recorded immediately.
Without the app. Email privacy@airdress.co from the address on your account, with the subject Account deletion. We will confirm the request and act on it. If you can no longer send mail from that address, say so in the message and we will verify your identity another way before deleting anything.
We act on requests within 30 days. In practice it is much sooner; the 30 days is the outside limit, not the target.
What is deleted#
- Your account profile: email address, display name, avatar.
- Your sign-in identity, so the account can no longer be signed into.
- Your airdresses, including their DNS records, so they stop resolving.
- Devices paired to your airdresses, and the credentials that let them connect.
- Waitlist data, if any is still held.
Messages are end-to-end encrypted and are stored on the operator serving your airdress. If you run your own operator, we cannot delete those messages, because we cannot read them and do not hold them. Deleting the data on a self-hosted operator is done by you, on that machine. If Airdress hosts your operator, the message store is deleted with the account.
What is kept, and why#
Your airdress name is not released. Names are permanent by design: once claimed, a name stays bound and is never reissued to anyone else, including after deletion. This is what stops someone taking a name you used to have and receiving messages meant for you. The name is retained as a reservation only — it is decoupled from your identity and no longer resolves anywhere.
Billing records are retained for the period required by tax law, generally seven years for US federal purposes. These are financial records rather than profile data; we cannot delete them on request and no jurisdiction we operate in requires us to.
Server logs are retained for up to 90 days, as described in our Privacy Policy, unless a longer period is required for an ongoing abuse investigation or legal proceeding.
Backups. Deleted data can persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days after deletion, after which those backups expire. It is not restored to live systems in the meantime.
Deleting some data but not your account#
You can delete individual airdresses from the app without closing your account — the same name-retention rule above applies to each one. To request removal of specific data without deleting your account, email privacy@airdress.co and describe what you want removed.
If you change your mind#
There is no undo. Once the deletion runs, the account and its data are gone and we cannot restore them. Your name remains reserved and cannot be claimed by anyone else, but it will not be reassigned to a new account automatically — contact us if you want it back on a new account and we will tell you whether that is still possible.
